By Aaron Humes: Axios reports that more than 50 thousand migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border have been released into the country without a court date, and only a fraction report to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.
This is unprecedented and reflects the growing migration problem at the border, where many are seeking work permits.
Of those who crossed from March to July, only 6,700 have attended an ICE office and twice as many have not. Some 27 thousand have also failed to show up but still have up to 60 days to do so.
In the last week, a Texas congressman reported 7,300 migrants in the Rio Grande Valley had been released in the last week alone, and more than 20 thousand crossers had been apprehended.
In all more than 1 million persons have been apprehended trying to enter the United States.
The White House says it will continue to fairly and justly enforce immigration laws and make the system orderly, and a spokesperson said the majority have reached out to begin processing by ICE. Others who would not would face removal.
