Shaun Gill thanks fans for the support

Posted: Friday, July 30, 2021. 11:06 pm CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “Thanks!!! The plan was indeed to get out fast and let them chase me. Run from the front and let them catch me if they can. The best man wins on the day,” Shaun Gill said after running the 100m race in 10.88 seconds at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Friday, July 30 (Saturday, July 31 in Japan).

“I had fun out there and I made sure to show sportsmanship after the race, regardless the results.”

“Please send ‘Thank you’ to everyone! The support is humbling. Even more messages now than before the race!” Gill said, according to Belize’s Chief of Mission, Herman Pastor.

Gill finished 5th at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, faster than four other runners but didn’t qualify to the next round.

Ngoni Nakusha of Zimbabwe won the heat in 10.32.

Only the first three from each heat plus the next fastest advanced to Round 1.

Gill’s best time is 10.57 seconds. His best time this year is 10.76.

Jamaican Usain Bolt holds both World (9.58) and Olympic (9.63) records in the 100m.

Breaking Belize News congratulates Gill for his strong showing and for representing the ‘Jewel’ on the world stage!
