By Aaron Humes: At least two of the deaths from COVID-19 reported this week were from Spanish Lookout, Cayo District, which was visited by Ministry of Health officials today for testing and vaccination.
Residents there have told the press inter alia that they have been a model for the country in their view as they have been able to hold down infections and deaths in that insular but liberal community.
But the Minister echoed Commissioner of Police Chester Williams’ remarks yesterday that the Mennonite community is not a law unto itself and must adhere to Belize’s laws.
That means they must wear masks outdoors, social distance and follow other conditions.
The Minister also stated that the Ministry is monitoring clusters of cases in Southside Belize City, which has reported dozens of cases in the past few days.
