By Benjamin Flowers: The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW), announced today that it has identified a cluster of positive COVID-19 cases in the Toledo District that are linked to James Bus Line.
The Ministry said that, through its surveillance activities, it has identified six staff members of the bus line who have tested positive for COVID-19, and is concerned because some of the identified cases were asymptomatic.
“The Toledo health team has carried out screening services for the remaining staff who have been asked to stay in quarantine and follow through with all recommendations of the Ministry of Health & Wellness as per quarantine and public health measures for containment. Some staff are awaiting results of PCR tests that have been prioritized by the ministry’s COVID-19 surveillance guidelines until further notice,” the Ministry said.
The MOHW has also recommended that James Bus Line review the services it is providing to the public and carry out sanitization measures in all its locations to address the possible spread of the virus to other staff members as well as the public.
Those who have been on a James Bus Line bus between July 28, 2021, up to today, August 1, may be at risk of contracting COVID-19. Anyone, having been on a James bus and are now experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, difficulty breathing, or sore throat are urged to seek the nearest health facility and be immediately tested for COVID-19. The ministry also called on all public terminal managers and employees from the bus hubs in Mango Creek, Belmopan, and Belize City to get tested.
The ministry said that it will provide updates on the cluster in collaboration with James Bus Line. Earlier today the bus line issued a public statement that its fleet is on stand down for the next 72 hours. See full story here.
