Still less than half of Belize’s soldiers vaccinated from COVID-19

Posted: Sunday, August 1, 2021. 1:14 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Belize Defence Force estimates that about 40 percent of its cadre of soldiers are vaccinated against COVID-19.

That is up from ten percent a few weeks ago but still trailing other sectors.

A force spokesman said three officers are presently fighting COVID-19.

The numbers have been going up as the provision for negative COVID-19 tests every two weeks goes into effect today, Sunday.

Officers rotate in after two weeks to give them a chance to rest and recuperate.

Soldiers have been kept busy patrolling the borders against illegal entry and contraband, both of which cause exposure to COVID-19, as well as protect the city against crime.
