UDP offering help to recently-terminated government workers at an upcoming press conference

Posted: Sunday, August 1, 2021. 5:07 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The United Democratic Party is preparing to host a press conference this week, where the party will be offering support to former government employees that have been terminated by the Briceno administration.

UDP Party leader Patrick Fabers is scheduled to host the press conference along with San Ignacio/Santa Elena Mayor Earl Trapp Jr this Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at the San Ignacio Town Hall starting at 10:00 a.m.

“A special invitation is extended to all persons who have been fired by this heartless, vindictive government. A team of lawyers will be on hand to provide free advice and assistance, especially to those who have not received their termination benefits,” the UDP said.

Notably, in January, over 80 employees of the Transport Department were let go, at that time the UDP’s Shadow Minister for Infrastructure Development and Housing said that the terminated workers may have a claim under the grounds of discrimination.

The conference will be one of the first public appearances of Patrick Faber alongside a party member since survived the recall convention in July to retain his leadership of the party.

Notably, factions of the UDP still believe that Faber should step down, with Former Belize Rural North area representative Edmond Castro calling him an “unfit leader” just last week. Following his victory at the recall convention Faber stressed that those who do not see it fit to work with him to rebuild the UDP may have to “move on.”
