By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s Samantha Dirks ran the 400m in 54.16 seconds finishing 7th in Heat 3 at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo on Monday night (Tuesday morning in Japan).
That was Samantha’s season best.
She was faster than Tetyana Melnyk of Ukraine who clocked 54.99.
Allyson Felix of the United States won the heat in 50.84.
Jamaican Roneisha McGregor was second in 51.14 winning over Lada Vondrova in a photo finish. Vondrova clocked the same time as McGregor.
Samantha’s personal best in the 400m is 53.19 seconds which she recorded in 2015.
Belize’s only other Athletics competitor at the Olympics is Shaun Gill who ran the 100m in 10.88 on Saturday, July 31.
