18 James Bus Line employees positive for COVID-19 as Health Ministry outlines guidelines for return to the road

Posted: Tuesday, August 3, 2021. 1:09 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The Ministry of Health has reported that eighteen employees of James Bus Line have tested positive for COVID-19 and it continues to screen and test close contacts of the infected.

While those affected must stay off the road, the company can return in a phased approach developed by the Ministry.

Only staff who have tested negative and are not contacts with a positive case may work and it is recommended that all staff be vaccinated, and those who refuse be regularly tested.

Additionally, passengers aboard must always wear a face mask properly; James Bus Line must ensure constant sanitization of the bus fleet; maximum capacity of passengers must not exceed 50 per cent and James Bus Line must only provide a non-stop service (i.e., express) at this time. The company run is from Belize City to Belmopan non-stop, then through the Hummingbird and Southern Highways connecting Dangriga, Independence and Punta Gorda, its homebase.

The Ministry advises persons who consider themselves at-risk and commuted via James Bus Line from July 28 to present and are presenting symptoms of fever, cough, difficulty breathing, and sore throat are advised to get tested at their nearest health facility. Management and employees of public bus terminals must ensure that their staff have been tested (Mango Creek, Belmopan, and Belize City).

The Ministry of Health & Wellness continues to advise the practice of key public health measures to prevent contracting COVID-19. Any new updates about this cluster will be provided in collaboration with James.
