By BBN Staff: Police have charged Belize City resident Leon Lee Smith for holding a social gathering in contravention with the current COVID-19 prevention regulations; however, Smith contends that he had nothing to do with the event and was at the location on business.
The alleged party was held at a car wash on Partridge Street on Saturday, July 31. In court, Smith said that he was there to pick up his vehicle and met a group of men drinking at the establishment when he arrived. He also contends that he does not live at the address they accused him of hosting the party at.
He was granted bail in the sum of $1,000 plus one surety of the same, which he met and was free to leave.
Smith is due back in court on September 30.
