2021 Scotiabank Concacaf League kicks off with two games

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Scotiabank Concacaf League, in which Verdes are playing, kicked off on Tuesday with two matches.

Guatemalan club San Lucía Cotzumalguapa blanked Metropolitan FC of Puerto Rico 3-0 at the Doroteo Guamuch Flores Stadium in Guatemala City. Juan Osorio scored the first goal in the 15th minute. Brandon de León made it 2-0 in the 45th and Isaac Acuña closed it in the 62nd.

Meanwhile, Honduras club Marathon edged Diriangén of Nicaragua 1-0 at the Estadio Nacional in Managua. Mario Martínez struck the only goal of the match in the 49th minute.

The tournament was to continue on Wednesday night, but the match was canceled as Martinique’s AS Samaritaine withdrew because of COVID-19 infections. Universitario of Panama won three easy points without having to play.

The Scotiabank Concacaf League continues on Thursday with two games. Verdes take on Santos de Guápiles of Costa Rica at 4 pm at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, while Comunicaciones host 11 Deportivo of El Salvador at the Doroteo Guamuch Flores Stadium in Guatemala City at 6 pm.
