By Benjamin Flowers: The Government of Belize is aiming to lighten the load of students and their families, through a project that will produce digital copies of school textbooks.
Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology Francis Fonseca explained today that the idea to digitize textbooks formed part of the People’s United Party’s campaign promise to transform education in Belize. Fonseca said today that the project is currently underway.
“As soon as we got into office we began working on that, reaching out to our international partners who we believe can support us in that regard,” Fonseca said. “That is ongoing. That won’t be ready, of course, for this school year, for this August.”
He stressed that the government is working aggressively on completing the project and will have the e-textbooks ready for next school year.
The Ministry is currently awaiting clearance from health authorities for face-to-face classes with the hopes of beginning at the end of the month.
