By Aaron Humes: The San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town Council has between 125 and 150 workers in various departments, but Mayor Earl Trapp told us he expects there will be some restructuring in coming years.
Nonetheless, he insists, there is no financial issue behind the effort to drop 20 workers, especially to hire new ones supporting the opposing party.
Party Leader Patrick Faber said he endorses the idea of ending the political football of municipal hiring, because of the problems it brings.
Whether or not the councilors like him, Faber said, the voters did, enough to re-elect him. This move represents to him what appears to be partisan politics in that it punishes UDP partisans and further divides the country.
Faber committed not only that the UDP would not return the favor when it retakes office, it would expand opportunity for all and the end of political football between the major parties.
