Posted: Wednesday, August 4, 2021. 4:36 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, seven police officers from the Western Police Formation received tertiary education scholarships through a collaboration between the Ministry of Home Affairs, Belize Police Department & Sacred Heart Junior College.

The officers: Dracir Reid, Joan Barrera, Evaristo Choc, Crystal Castillo, Melonie Magdaleno, Laujuana Gillette & Ciriaco Medina, received their scholarships this morning at a ceremonial signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the school, the ministry, and the police department.

Signing the MOU were Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries Kareem Musa, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, Assistant Commissioner of Police Richard Rosado, President of Sacred Heart College Mrs. Rocio Carballo, and Dean of Sacred Heart Junior College Mr. Fermin Magana.

“Education is the key to police reform,” said Musa, who was a known advocate for police reform prior to attaining office, and has been even more vocal about such reforms over the past few weeks.
