Belize Defense Force Staff Sergeant Victor Martin Jr. laid to rest today

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, Belize Defense Force (BDF) Staff Sergeant Victor Martin Jr., who died in a road traffic accident last week, is being laid to rest.

Martin is receiving a military funeral, with a memorial service being held at St. John’s Cathedral in Belize City.

On Tuesday, July 27, Martin was riding his motorcycle in the vicinity of Cotton Tree Village just before 6:00 p.m. when he got into a collision with a pickup truck being driven at the time by Arlie Ayala, 40. He was flung some 50 feet from the impact point, and suffered severe injuries, killing him on the spot.

Following the incident, police have charged Ayala with mаnѕlаughtеr bу nеglіgеnсе, cаuѕіng dеаth bу саrеlеѕѕ соnduсt, drоvе mоtоr vеhісlе wіthоut duе cаrе аnd attеntіоn, and fаіlіng tо gіvе wау whеn сhаngіng dіrесtіоn.
