U.S. says Belize closer to getting Pfizer vaccine for teenagers

Posted: Thursday, August 5, 2021. 11:29 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Belize, Andie de Arment, says Belize is getting closer to obtaining Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for youth ages 12 and above.

According to our colleagues at KREM News, she was speaking at an event where she mentioned the donation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regional office of an ultra low-temperature storage facility for vaccines, installed at the national office next to the compound of the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan.

Only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for use with minors but Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat committed to obtaining such vaccines in time for the resumption of school.

To date, more than 50 thousand Belizeans have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and more than twice that have obtained at least one dose of either AstraZeneca or Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine.
