By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “We have done it again!” said Jamaican Primer Minister Andrew Holmes as the Jamaican Women’s relay team won the 4x100m at the Tokyo Olympics.
The Jamaican team comprised of Brianna Williams, Elaine Thompson-Herah, ShellyAnn Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson set a national record of 41.02 seconds ahead of the US (41.45) and Great Britain (41.88).
“Congratulations to our Women’s 4x100M relay team on a dynamic race! This is Jamaica’s first win in the event since 2004. We are undoubtedly a talented nation,” Holmes applauded the fastest women in the world.
“And what a way to celebrate our Independence!” he closed his short statement as Jamaica also celebrate their national Independence Day.
Jamaica gained its independence from Great Britain 59 years ago on August 6, 1962.
So far, Jamaica have won eight medals at the Olympics, four gold, one silver and three bronze.
