By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Santos de Guápiles beat Verdes 1-0 on a late goal in Scotiabank Concacaf League at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan on Thursday night.
When it looked like Verdes were going to gain at least one point at home, Denilson Mora, who had come off the bench, hammered in the game winner in the 90’.
The home squad had their breaks but just couldn’t finish. Santos, however, return home on Friday with the three points in the bag and the upper hand for the return match Wednesday, August 18 at the Estadio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica.
Meanwhile, Comunicaciones drew 1-1 with El Salvador’s Once Deportivo at the Doroteo Guamch Flores Stadium in Guatemala City on Thursday night.
Alexander Larin scored from a left foot shot off a free kick in the 36’. The ball sailed into the top right corner of goal past Once Deportivo goalie Yonatan Guardado for the home-side the 1-0 lead.
Once Deportivo evened the score in the 69’ minute on a goal by Edgar Medrano who nailed a right foot shot past Comunicaciones goalkeeper Fredy Perez.
The Salvadorans now have the edge when they play the return match at the Cuscatlán Stadium in San Salvador on Thursday, August 19, 2021.
The Scotiabank Concacaf League resumes next Thursday, August 12, when Canadian club Forge host CD FAS at the Cuscatlán Stadium in San Salvador. Forge have to play their home game away because Canada does not yet allow football games. So, both games will play in El Salvador.
