By Benjamin Flowers: The United States Embassy in Belmopan issued a travel notice today, informing travelers coming to Belize of new entry requirements coming into effect Monday, August 9th, 2021.
Under the updated entry requirements, all travelers both vaccinated and non-vaccinated will have to present a negative COVID-19 test at the Philip Goldson International Airport, this goes for all travelers ages 5 years and older. The negative test result has to be from a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 96 hours of travel or a negative result from an approved Antigen Rapid test taken within 48 hours of travel.
“If no test is presented, a COVID-19 test will be administered at the airport for a fee of US $50 per passenger. Children under the age of 5 years will not be required to present a negative test. All travelers age 5 and over entering Belize through the Northern and Western Border will be required to have a COVID-19 Rapid Test administered by the Ministry of Health and Wellness for a fee of US $50 per passenger,” the Embassy said.
The embassy also noted that no external COVID-19 PCR or rapid test will be accepted at those entry points and that children under the age of 5 years will not be required to present a negative test. Travelers are warned that all international visitors who test positive for COVID-19 while entering Belize will be required to quarantine at a Government of Belize-approved hotel for 14 days at their own expense, as such, they are strongly encouraged to purchase travel insurance covering COVID-19.
