By BBN Staff: The United States Embassy in Belmopan announced that it has welcomed its new Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Leyla Moses-Ones.
Chargé Moses-Ones, a career diplomat, arrived in Belize on Friday, August 6, and assumed her duties immediately. The Embassy notes that Chargé Moses-Ones comes with a wealth of experience including serving in various capacities in Washington, D.C. as well as U.S. Missions in Costa Rica, Mozambique, Turkey, and Germany. In her most recent posting in Washington D.C., she held the position of Deputy Director in the Office of Policy and Global Issues at the Bureau for European and Eurasian Affairs. She also was Deputy Chief of Mission to Tirana, Albania from 2018 to 2021, and was the Charge d’Affaires a.i. there for half of her tour.
“I am pleased to have the honor of serving my country in Belize as Chargé d’Affaires,” said Chargé Moses-Ones, “I look forward to working with the government, civil society organizations, and the Belizean people to continue to build on this exceptional U.S. – Belize partnership, promoting our shared interests and enhancing national security, economic prosperity, and good governance efforts.”
Among her many qualifications, Chargé Moses-Ones is a distinguished alumni of the National Defense University and also holds a master’s degree in National Security and Defense Resource Strategy and an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. She succeeds former Chargé d’Affaires Keith Gilges who served from July 2018 to July 2021.
