By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) today confirmed that National Road Champion Justin Williams and National Time Trial Champion Oscar Quiroz should be leading Belize’s contingent of 15 cyclists to the Pan American Road Cycling Championships and the 20th Caribbean Road Cycling Championships.
Both championships will be held this week in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic from August 12-15.
Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) president Orson Butler said at the end of July that Belize will be represented in the Men’s Elite Category by Williams, Quiroz, Giovanni Lovell, Joslyn Chavarria, Byron Pope, and Wasani Castro.
The U-23 riders selected are Shawn Codd, Eric Trapp, Joshua Fuller, Gian Lino, Carlton Robinson, and Henry Li.
As expected, the three Women’s elite rider are National Road Champion Alicia Thompson, National Time Trial Champion, Nicole Gallego, and National Road and Time Trial subchampion Kaya Cattouse.
The substitute riders are Robert Liam Stewart, Angel Tzib and Shane Jones for the Men’s Elite and Jyven Gonzalez, Mairon Muñoz and Patrick Williams for the U-23.
The national teams are expected in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, August 11 for the competition which starts on Thursday and runs until Sunday.
The CFB said both events are listed as qualifying events for the Junior Pan American Championships in Cali, Colombia for U23 riders.
The two championships include men’s and women’s time trials and road races.
