Posted: Tuesday, August 10, 2021. 6:03 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Cabinet has announced after meeting earlier today, Tuesday, that it will extend the current COVID-19 public health regulations, including a 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew for the country of Belize, up to August 31, 2021.

The regulations had been due to expire on August 15.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness informed Cabinet that Belize is now in a third wave of COVID-19. At the end of today, there were 493 active cases countrywide with 341 total deaths recorded.

In addition, reports received from the Central Medical Laboratory on 9th August 2021 indicate the presence of the following variants in Belize: Alpha, Gamma, and Delta as variants of concern and the Epsilon which is only a variant of interest.

Belizeans are being encouraged to be vaccinated (mandated in the case of frontline workers) and to adhere to public health regulations including wearing masks, social distancing, limiting public and especially social gatherings, and the chance of the virus spreading.
