Prime Minister’s driver tests positive for COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated; has message for Belizeans

Posted: Tuesday, August 10, 2021. 8:12 pm CST.

By Hugh O’Brien: Edwin Hill, the driver for Prime Minister John Briceno confirmed to Breaking Belize News (BBN) that he tested positive for COVID-19 today and is in self isolation.

In an exclusive interview with BBN, Hill recollected that he had a slight cough yesterday and therefore decided to test for COVID-19. His results came back positive despite having been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to Hill, while he had a slight cough yesterday, he has no symptoms today and he believes that he is already on the road to recovery. However, out of an abundance of caution he is self-isolating. Hill said that his medical advisers recommended that he repeat the COVID-19 test in a weeks time.

Hill told BBN that from the onset he accepted that “vaccination does not protect you from getting COVID, but it prevents you from having severe symptoms and from being hospitalized”.

Hill encourages Belizeans “to go out and get vaccinated” as “this is the only way we will beat this pandemic in Belize and return to some level of normalcy”, he claims.
