By Benjamin Flowers: This week, the political third party Belize Progressive Party (BPP) publicly condemned what it feels is a lack of will on the part of successive government administrations to address Guatemalan encroachments on Belizean territory, taking issue with the expansion of the Jimenez family farm on Belizean land.
The BPP said on Tuesday that the expansion of the farm which originates in Guatemala has been documented for the past decade and describes the incident as “a slap in the face of all Belizeans.”
“We at the BPP support the destruction of all structures associated with the Jimenez Farm within Belize’s territory and call on the Government to report the Guatemalan forces’ recent incursions along our borders to the international community…” the BPP said.
The Party has also taken issue with the Government’s handling of Guatemalan civilians and military personnel accosting Belizean security forces near the Rio Blanco Conservation Outpost, stressing the Ministry of foreign Affairs’ July 28 press release regarding the matter highlights that the Briceno administration is not serious about defending Belize’s territorial integrity.
The Party calls on the government to address the issue and stand up for Belize.
