By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Playing in the Scotiabank Concacaf League is an expensive proposition, so when Caribbean International Brewery Company Limited (CIBCL) made a donation of $10,000, Verdes more than welcomed it.
“This is a great opportunity for Belize to be showcased on a prestigious International forum. We are proud of and congratulate Verdes FC and wish them the best in the tournament,” said Caribbean Brewery in a post on social media.
“We at CIBCL feel honored to be able to contribute to the development of our athletes and sports on a whole. Although we are very young and not yet realizing profits, as a responsible corporate citizen we feel that we must do our part to advance positive development for our great nation – Belize.”
CIBCL made the donation on Friday, August 6, the day after Verdes played their initial match in the Scotiabank Concacaf League.
Verdes are set to travel to Costa Rica next week to play the return leg in the Scotiabank Concacaf League against Santos de Guápiles on Wednesday, August 18.
Santos won the first leg in Belmopan on August 5, 1-0 on a late goal.
Verdes have to beat Santos by more than a goal to advance to the next round.
