Man walks from attempted robbery trial after alleged victim did not show up to court

By BBN Staff: A Lord’s Bank Man walked free from a charge of attempted robbery this week, after the alleged victim failed to show up for the trial.

Elias Chan, 22, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, to answer the charge in relation to a failed 2020 robbery of Vilma Martinez.

When Martinez did not show up, Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser struck the matter out for “want of prosecution” keeping Chan from facing a possible fine of $3,000 or a five-year prison sentence if convicted.
