National Celebrations Commission to give $40,000 through ‘Belize @40 Grant,’ a September Innovative Grants Programme

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: In celebration of Belize’s 40th birthday, the National Celebrations Commission launched the September Innovative Grants Programme to benefit 40 Belizeans with $1,000 grants.

“We all know how COVID-19 has affected us economically socially so this is more an upliftment, trying to help those who have an innovative idea,” said Sapna Budhrani, president of the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) according to a press release by the Government of Belize Press Office.

“If we look around for grants and we’ve seen what the government has done, we’ve done items for the pantry, for businesses, for agriculture, but seldom anything has been done for creators and innovators. So, this is one of them. It’s $1000, 40 persons. Celebrating Belize at 40.”

Any Belizean who has an idea for a new creative project or initiative may apply for the grant.

“There is no restriction on age, gender, anything,” Budhrani said.

Budhrani said the Belize @40 Grant is funded by the governments of Belize and Taiwan.

Persons who want to get a grant may fill out an eleven-question application in which they have to describe their project. Applications should be emailed to [email protected].

Budhrani said that once the projects are approved the grants will be handed over to the applicants.

The deadline for applications to be submitted is August 31.

Should there not be enough applicants, the program would be relaunched Budhrani said.
