Active COVID-19 cases climb above 600

By BBN Staff: There are more than 600 Belizeans currently infected with COVID-19 according to the latest data issued by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Active infections are at 622 cases, with another 359 suspected cases under investigation.

There are also 17 patients hospitalized in standard COVID-19 hospital units, and six patients receiving critical care in the intensive care unit (ICU).

The current level of active cases eclipses the 32 new recoveries and supports the message by the Belize Medical and Dental Association that Belize is currently experiencing a third wave of COVID cases.

This third wave is made worse by the presence of the more contagious Delta Variant strain of the virus, which also gives patients more severe symptoms.

All Belizeans 18 years and older are being urged by health authorities to be vaccinated against COVID-19, as the national vaccination campaign continues country-wide.
