Man fined $2,000 for punching the mother of his children in her face

By BBN Staff: Despite two previous convictions and unpaid fines, a Belize City man was spared jail time in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after assaulting the mother of his children.

Peter Lopez, 26, wasted no time in pleading guilty as he appeared before Magistrate Audrey Grinage but gave an explanation as to why he punched Cassy Crawford.

Lopez explained that he recently got out of jail and Crawford knew she was to stay away from him when she came and caused the dispute which led to his violent outburst. He pleaded the mercy of the court, saying he just wants to support his three children without having any problems with Crawford.

Magistrate Grinage decided to grant him mercy and imposed a fine of $2,000 plus a $5 cost of court fee which he must pay by November 30, 2021, or in default spend 9 months in jail.
