By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Agriculture, National Food and Nutrition Security Commission to conduct an assessment of food systems in Belize on Thursday, August 26.
A release from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE) said “MAFSE and the National Food and Nutrition Security Commission in partnership with the European Union (EU), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the French Agriculture Research Centre for Development (CIRAD) will gather key stakeholders and experts to undertake an assessment of food systems in Belize.”
MAFSE said the consultation workshop on food systems is part of a global joint initiative by the EU, FAO, AND CIRAD.
MAFSE said that at the consultation workshop the key actors and experts will discuss and agree on multi-dimensional issues related to the sustainability of food systems in Belize.
MAFSE said that a final food systems assessment report and policy brief should be prepared from the consultation.
These should then advance the national dialogue on food systems and should provide the basis for the development of policies, plans, and programs on food systems in Belize.
It is also expected that information from this consultation workshop will be submitted to the Food Systems Summit that United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has convened at the UN General Assembly for September 2021.
