By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) says Tropical Depression Fred is moving over the northern coast of Cuba and is headed to Florida keys where it could arrive by Saturday morning.
At 3pm on Friday, August 13, Tropical Depression Fred had sustained winds of 35 miles per hour, was located at 22.3 North and 79.6 West, and is moving west-northwest at 12 miles per hour.
The NHC said that tropical storm conditions are expected to affect portions of the Florida Keys on Saturday.
The storm is expected to move northward along the Florida west coast and to the Florida Panhandle on Sunday and Monday causing heavy rainfall and flooding where it passes.
At the same time the NHC is following a potential Tropical Cyclone 7. The system has 35 mile-per-hour winds and is moving west at 22 miles per hour. The system has an 80% chance of becoming a tropical storm cyclone within the next 48 hours to five days.
The system is a concentrated area of showers and thunderstorms located a few hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verdes Islands which is associated with a tropical wave.
