Mother with young baby robbed at home

By Aaron Humes: A new mother from Benque Viejo del Carmen, Cayo District, was the unfortunate victim of armed robbers on Friday the 13th.

Police say two men, dressed in dark clothing with hats on their heads, ski masks over their faces, one of fair complexion and one of dark complexion, both armed, held up 21-year-old Erica Castellanos of Lomas del Rodeo area, Benque, who was holding her 11-month-old baby.

According to Castellanos, the men demanded she hand over a rifle belonging to husband Byron, 23, and money. Despite her insistence that neither Byron or his firearm was at the house, the men stole a total of $8,000, $1,000 from her wallet and $7,000 from inside a safe in the bedroom, and then escaped.

Police are investigating this latest robbery.
