By Benjamin Flowers: This weekend, New Beginnings Animal Shelter in Ladyville is calling on Belizeans to assist its efforts in supporting stray and abandoned dogs and cats by making a donation at its fundraiser, being held at the Reimers Feed Store on the Phillip Goldson Highway.
The organization, which is currently housing and feeding 14 adult dogs, 17 puppies, 17 adult cats, and 18 kittens: a total of 66 animals, will be holding the fundraiser to coincide with the sale being held at Reimer’s on August 14. New Beginnings will be accepting cash donations as well as cat and dog chow, flea, and tick prevention meds, dog shampoo, cat litter, construction supplies (always need more kennels), leashes, collars, water buckets etc.
Apart from raising funds the shelter will be sharing information for pet owners on dog and cat care and encouraging pet owners to spay and neuter pets, especially cats.
“It’s a fundraiser/food drive and if we get enough cash donations, we can buy a roll of chain link for our next dog run. If we buy this weekend, it will have a big discount,” explained Luz Hunter, founder of New Beginnings. “We will also have pictures of the animals at the shelter available for adoption.”
International donations can be made through the Gofundme campaign on the organization’s Go Fund Me Page.
