By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Oscar Quiroz won a second bronze medal on Thursday at the Caribbean Cycling Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
This time it was in the Men’s Elite Time Trials Championship in which he finished in the third position behind winner Augusto Sanchez of the Dominican Republic who did the 25-mile race in 53 minutes and 37 seconds at a speed of 27.96 miles per hour. Joshua Kelly of Barbados, who had won the road championship, was second in 54:28.
Oscar clocked 55:41.
On Thursday, Kaya Cattouse won the silver medal and Oscar captured bronze in the Elite Road Races.
On Friday, Kaya finished in 4th position in the Caribbean Women’s Elite Time Trials. She finished the 12.5-mile race at 6:09 behind the winner Caitlin Conyers of Bermuda who crossed the finish line at 28:40.
Joshua Fuller was 6th in the Caribbean Men’s U-23 Time Trials. Fuller completed the 18.75-mile race 5:13 behind the gold medalist Conor White of Bermuda who clocked 39.35 at a speed of 28.42 miles per hour.
Eric Trapp placed 24th in the more demanding Pan American Men’s U-23 Time Trials which featured riders from throughout Latin America. Trapp completed the 18.75-mile race 5:20 behind 1st place rider Héctor Quintana from Chile. Quintana rode at a speed of 29.14 miles per hour clocking 38:36.
The Caribbean Championships are now over, the Pan American Championships continue on Saturday and Sunday in Santo Domingo.
