By BBN Staff: Over 160 new COVID-19 infections were reported today, sending the total number of active cases above 700, according to data published by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
Active infections are now at 718 cases, with another 313 suspected cases under investigation.
The ministry also reports that there are currently 10 patients hospitalized in standard COVID-19 hospital units, and five patients receiving critical care in the intensive care unit (ICU).
There have also been 67 new patients who have recovered from infection.
Medical professionals have stated that Belize is currently going through a third wave of COVID-19 cases and that the situation is being made worse by the presence of the more contagious Delta Variant strain of the virus.
All Belizeans 18 years and older are being urged by health authorities to be vaccinated against COVID-19, as the national vaccination campaign continues country-wide.
