By BBN Staff: Commissioner of Police (COMPOL) Chester Williams says that everyone involved with a boat being used for a party on the sea over the weekend was charged for breach of quarantine regulations.
Williams said that on Saturday morning, he received information that the private vessel was docked at the Princess Hotel pier in Belize City, with a number of people participating in an illegal social gathering.
Williams directed officers to intercept the boat before it could leave the pier and the part goers, the captain of the vessel, and the organizers of the event were charged. Williams stressed that video footage has circulated more than once showing the kinds of activities that take place on these boats, and said that they play a large role in Belize’s current COVID-19 crisis.
“It is activities like these that currently have us in the position that we are where we’re seeing that the number of infections as it relates to covid is rising, so we as a department we are doing our best to see how we can assist the Ministry of Health and Wellness to mitigate the spread of this virus,” Williams said.
The department has not yet released the names of those charged in connection with the incident.
