Attorney General: “No court order goes against S.I. 74”

By Aaron Humes: The Belizean Rights and Justice Movement (BRJM) says it has filed a court case challenging the legality of Statutory Instrument 74 which, among other things, mandates vaccination or repeat testing for frontline workers.

But the Attorney General’s Ministry has clarified that the Supreme Court has not issued any order or injunction going against the instrument and thus it remains the law of the land.

Specifically, this means that it is not true as the BRJM claims that the matter is sub judice and out of the hands of the Government. Legal action can thus still be taken against anyone in violation of SI 74 and especially employees who are not vaccinated or tested and show up to work as BRJM urges.

The organization does appear to concede the continued use of masks, social distancing and other protocols and encourage those who have flu-like symptoms similar to COVID-19 to stay home (though not to be tested or vaccinated).

As for the legal eagles, they ask the public to be informed of and advised by the law and not by the apparently lawless.
