By Aaron Humes: There will be implications for the management of crime if the Government proceeds with amending the Misuse of Drugs Act to allow for development of cannabis-related business, according to Ex-Minister of State, Elodio Aragon.
Aragon says consultation must be held to determine the way forward because open growing of marijuana and related businesses can exacerbate crime.
It may well be that legalized marijuana is the way to go, Aragon said, but the decision must not be in the hands of one man.
Aragon also warned against the expanded relationship between Government and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), stating that Belize risks introducing organized gangs and crime to an unprepared society.
Aragon also made note of what he calls the falling morale and failings of the Police Department, which adds to the ongoing chaos.
