By Aaron Humes: The stevedores deserve better than to be disrespected by the likes of the Minister of Agriculture and told they need to get new jobs, UDP leader Patrick Faber said this morning at a party press conference.
On the UDPs part, all 5 of its standard bearers and representatives stand with their affected constituents, whom as Faber points out, are black and vulnerable.
It is not too late, Faber said, for the Government to intervene and offer retraining and other opportunities to avoid a “desperate situation.”
Any savings from the Big Creek Port switch ought to trickle down to those who need it most and the Government must assure that, Faber said, for cane farmers and stevedores.
