Taiwanese University Students’ Volunteer Group donates laptops to 9 schools

By Benjamin Flowers: This week, nine schools received a donation of laptops through the student volunteer group from Taiwan’s National Tsing-Hua University – Belize Educational Service Group (BESG).

His Excellency Ambassador David Kuan-Chou Chien of the Republic of China (Taiwan), handed over the laptops along with projectors and other equipment to representatives of the recipient schools on Tuesday.

The Embassy of Taiwan in Belize notes that the volunteer group has visited Belize almost every year since 2011 to offer assistance to students in the field of information and communications technology (ICT).

“Although the past two years have seen international travel severely limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, BESG still manages to raise funds, collect and deliver laptops and other important ICT products to Belize,” the Embassy said.

Ambassador Chien also took the opportunity to encourage Belize students to apply for Taiwanese scholarships to study in Taiwan in the future. He also noted that the donation comes at a time when Belize and Taiwan are celebrating the 32nd anniversary of friendly diplomatic relations.
