Minister of Home Affairs: “We have to recognize stress”

By Aaron Humes: Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa has issued his condolences on the passing of Police Officer Arilee Young, killed by her partner Glenford Perriott along with her daughter Shania Hyde this morning in their Kings Park home.

The Minister stated on social media: “Today’s tragic loss is a bitter reminder that our hard working officers are mortal and universally human. Police Officers face their own personal battles daily and still carry their uniforms and responsibilities with heads held high. This is no easy task.”

He continued, “There is a shadow of unexposed mental, social and economic stress which is eating away at our people. We have to recognize this lurking spirit but share hope with each other and fall on the love, aspirations and support of the good in all Belizeans.”

He said the families of the deceased have the support and prayers of himself and the public in their grief and the coming terrible days.

It has been suggested that stresses in the relationship lay behind the fateful decision of murder-suicide this morning. The matter is under investigation by Police.
