By Aaron Humes: The Gang Intelligence, Investigation, and Interdiction Unit (GI3) recovered a smoke grenade on Belize City’s southside this afternoon.
The find was made on Mayflower Street in the Ghost Town area which has recently been a center of violence.
The provenance of the grenade is unknown but was confirmed to be a smoke grenade by a Belize Defence Force bomb expert.
Grenades stolen from the cache of the British Army Training Support Unit Belize (BATSUB) are still at large though the last major grenade attack was a decade ago in 2009; subsequent uses of grenades have been scary but not lethal.
