By Aaron Humes: They were already required to do so as frontline workers, but with new constraints brought on by an upsurge in cases, workers at business process outsourcing (BPO) facilities who do not wish to work from home must get vaccinated in order to set foot in the office.
Statutory Instrument 92 of 2021, the sixth amendment of the Public Health (Prevention of the Spread of Infectious Disease) (COVID-19) Regulations, 2021, provides that BPO facilities must limit their staff working on-site to 50 percent of building capacity, leaving the others to work at home.
BPOs were added a few weeks after Statutory Instrument 74 was promulgated, mandating vaccination or regular testing for categories of frontline workers. No statistics have been provided as to how many BPO workers are vaccinated or refusing to vaccinate.
