By Aaron Humes: This weekend, police were kept busy rounding up several men wanted on detention orders under the State of Emergency, which started last week Thursday.
Kenrick Gordon of Lakeview Street; Albert Valentine of West Canal; Ainsworth Foreman of Mayflower Street; Kent Flores of Lakeview Street and Belama Phase Four; Kenyon Flores of Lakeview Street and Verris Ventura of Reggae Street are among those confirmed detained, while Assistant Superintendent of Police Fitzroy Yearwood at a press briefing confirmed that Jervis Diamond Valencia turned himself on Monday.
The group will be taken straight to prison for at least 30 days – no bail, no right of habeas corpus.
And Police hope the respite provided by the State of Emergency Order will embolden residents to help solve crime: “Taking them off the streets alone is one thing; but we ask the general public – these persons are detained; we know that they have orchestrated and performed many crimes in this city of ours. Help us by coming in and giving us some statements so that we can make meaningful arrests and put these people away for a while.”
