Construction, manufacture rebound; less production of electricity and water

Posted: Wednesday, August 25, 2021. 12:35 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: The secondary sector rallied by nearly 14 percent, buoyed by increases in construction and value-added manufacturing.

Sugar production rose to nearly 90 thousand tons and there was also more beer and soft drinks produced.

During this time the COVID-19 restrictions had been relaxed enough to allow for greater production to satisfy demand. This is also true of flour production at 3.2 million pounds.

There has actually been a slight decrease in water production due to disconnections and people simply using less water at home.

As for electricity generation, less than 60 thousand megawatt-hours of electricity was produced, because of a decision to produce less hydroelectric capacity to preserve water sources in the Cayo District.
