Accused rapists in Belize District charged

By Aaron Humes: Police have laid charges in the separate rape cases of two minors in the Belize District.

In San Pedro Town, police have formally arrested and charged 20-year-old Alejandro Choc, a Belizean Laborer of San Pedro Town for two counts of rape of a child.

Choc is accused of following a 12-year-old girl into a bathroom outside her home in the San Mateo area on Saturday night and raping her, then forcing her to keep quiet when she tried to alert her mother who had come looking for her.

In Belize City, Police have formally arrested and charged 32-year-old Jeffrey Daniel Gillett, Belizean Technician, with two counts of Rape of a child.

Gillett is accused of forcibly sodomizing a tutoree in English on Saturday morning at a residence on the Northside of Belize City.

Both cases have generated outrage in the public and condemnation from Government agencies including the office of the Special Envoy, Ministry of Human Development, and National Committee for Families and Children (NCFC).
