By Rubén Morales: Leader of the Opposition Shyne Barrow met with United States Congressman Adriano Espaillat, who represents New York’s Thirteenth Congressional District which includes Harlem, East Harlem, West Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill, and the north-west Bronx.
Barrow is on a tour of the United States and has met senators in Georgia, the mayor of Newark City, before his meeting with Espaillat.
“We discussed increasing U.S. economic support for the Caribbean Nations. The Congressman agreed especially in light of the rise of communist influence in the region,” said Barrow.
“Congressman Espaillat committed to pushing for job creation in Nations like Belize by investing in capacity building in order to shift U.S. reliance on manufacturing from Communist States to Democratic Nations like Belize and other CARICOM Nations.
“I welcome Congressman Espaillat’s vision to strengthen Democracy and Regional Security through economic investment,” Barrow added.
Espaillat’s website said he is the first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.
He was first elected to Congress in 2016 and was sworn in on January 3, 2017. Espaillat is now serving his third term in Congress and currently serves as a member of the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations.
The Appropriations Committee “is responsible for funding the federal government’s vital activities to keep the United States safe, strong, and moving forward.”
