More than just testing: Caring Hands Antigen Test Center offers complete followup care for COVID-19 patients

Posted: Thursday, August 26, 2021. 11:24 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The recent surge in COVID-19 cases countrywide has brought with it concerns for the condition of those who have tested positive. Caring Hands Antigen Test Center has been addressing those concerns with comprehensive follow-up care to its customers, to ensure their well-being, post-diagnosis.

Breaking Belize News spoke with Dr. Shanna Pott of Caring Hands, who explained that several considerations are made when initially assessing a patient’s treatment needs, such as symptoms displayed, the age of the patient, the presence of underlying conditions, and cater to the specific needs of that patient.

“We follow up with their symptoms on a daily basis especially when we have older patients or patients with underlying conditions who we know are the ones who would suffer the severity of the illness,” Dr. Pott said. “We follow through with patients for retesting and throughout their quarantine time even when asymptomatic it’s a very stressful situation and takes a mental toll so we offer support how we can.”

In the event a patient displays worsening conditions and may need emergency evacuation via airlift, Caring Hands, through its partnership with Maya Island Air, arranges emergency airlift service at minimal cost to the patient.

BBN also spoke with a representative of Maya Island Air, who explained that emergency airlifts are treated with extra precaution, whether or not the patient has tested positive for COVID-19. Staff members dawn hazmat suits and respirators and enter the aircraft with the electrostatic sprayers, ensuring to detail areas that are frequently touched.

The aircraft is then left for 30-40 minutes to allow the cleaning agent to work before the aircraft is used again. Maya Island Air also notes that the chemical used, Sani 101, is approved by the United States Environment Protection Agency, and lasts up to three days.

Those wishing to take advantage of Caring Hands convenient testing options and remarkable followup care can do so by contacting a branch in their respective district at the numbers below.
