Party boat group charged for breaking State of Emergency Regulations

By BBN Staff: Nine people were brought to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this week to face charges of violating the State of Emergency imposed restrictions on social gatherings for an alleged boat party held on Saturday, August 14.

Evan Thompson, 20, was charged with hosting a private gathering, while the boat captain Osman A. Black, 51, was charged with inciting people to contravene the Public Health Regulation.

Seven others were charged with attending a gathering of more than 10 people not from the same household, as stipulated by Statutory Instrument #90 of 2021, they are Kaylyn Marin, 29, Damalia Vasquez, 19, Crystal Choco, 26, Arbunie Lopez, 30, Marie Berry, 26, Keke Requena, 22, and Nerisie Lewis, 25. One Amy Pelayo was to be charged with the group but there was an issue with her court book, so she will be charged at a later date.

All accused pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of $1,000 which they all met.

The group is scheduled to return to court on October 25.
