By Aaron Humes: SMART has hit back again at charges it undercut rivals Telemedia in the recent battle to obtain contracts to license Microsoft 365 Office products.
In a statement it insists it was not a ‘late addition’ to the process; it was invited to bid along with Telemedia and Inova Solutions in a limited tendering procurement process. It does not address claims that it is not a licensed distributor of Microsoft products as Telemedia and Inova are.
SMART presented the comparative table of prices submitted by the Central Information Technology Office (CITO) to all bidders with estimates for one and three-year contracts. SMART only bid on the one-year contract while Telemedia and Inova bid on both.
SMART’s bid without General Sales Tax, it claims, is about 200 thousand dollars less than BTL, and still, lower even when adding value-added services such as employee training. BTL actually missed adding an item to its proposal which it was allowed to do.
The bottom line, SMART maintains is that wants ‘a level playing field and an equal opportunity to fairly compete for Government business,’ something it says is specifically a matter of law and of fairness.
