By Aaron Humes: In cooperation with the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), the Government of Belize is pleased to announce the launch of the Belize Electronic License and Permit System (BELAPS), a one-stop online service and 24-hour access to apply and to pay for their import/export licences and permits from governmental agencies, including the Forestry Department, the Fisheries Department, the Belize Bureau of Standards and the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA).

Moreover, by linking BELAPS to Belize’s Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA), the Belizean Government can monitor import/export activities, and collect market and trade data in a more efficient manner.

Ambassador of Taiwan in Belize David Kuan-chou Chien handed over to Ministers Jose Abelardo Mai (Agriculture) and Kevin Bernard (E-Governance) the project, valued at US$1.8 million and developed over five years from 2013 to 2018.

The Taiwanese have previously assisted Belize with information and communication technology products (ICT) such as the Belize Motor Vehicle Registration and License System (BMVRALS) completed in March and a National ICT Centre, which is currently hosted by the Central Information Technology Office (CITO).

Ambassador Chien and Ministers Mai and Bernard issued congratulations and appreciation for the strong cooperative ties between the countries and the commitment to continue that cooperation in support of diplomatic relations between the countries established 32 years ago.

The Taiwanese Embassy furthermore would like to express its sincere appreciation to the Government of Belize and related participants for the joint efforts in achieving BELAPS. Through the soft launch of this system and other undergoing projects, Taiwan and Belize look forward to further cooperation and deeper partnership for mutual benefits of our two peoples.
